Grand Prix

Grand Prix is a tradition that has been held since 1958.  It is a 33 kart race of karts handmade from scratch by student teams. Grand prix is the event that concludes Grand Prix week at Purdue. The point of Grand Prix is to raise money for scholarships for students through Purdue Grand Prix Foundation. Though Grand Prix is a week long event the actual race itself is held on Saturday at the end of the week. During the rest of the week other events are held to have fun and participate in. One recent addition to Grand Prix week is an adult tricycle race held on the track. There a lot of other events held too, many of which are sanctioned through Purdue and quite a few others that are not such as parties at houses. Grand Prix week is known for the lack of students in class, rampant drunkenness, and overall sense of enjoyment from the majority of students on campus. For many students Grand Prix is viewed as one of the best weeks of the year, every year that they attend Purdue. A main part of Grand Prix week for the older students is Breakfast Club. The bars open early and all the students dress up in costume and start out the morning with some quality college style morning drinking. Once Grand Prix rolls around every Boilermaker should find some time for some fun and participate in some way whether its racing in the race or doing Breakfast Club in honor of it.
